In 1885 the Statue of Liberty arrived in New York Harbour! Where from?

france

Located on a 12 acre island, the Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the people of the United States and is a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. The Statue of Liberty was dedicated on October 28, 1886, designated as a National Monument in 1924 and restored for her centennial on July 4, 1986.

It was a gift from the French

The Statue arrived in New York Harbor on June 17, 1885 on board the French frigate Is¨¨re. To prepare for transit, the Statue was reduced to 350 individual pieces and packed in 214 crates. (The right arm and the torch, which were completed earlier, had been exhibited at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia in 1876, and thereafter at Madison Square in New York City.)

It was a gift from France. The engineering structure was by Gustave Eiffel. If you look up inside the Statue of Liberty you can see that the structure actually looks similar to the Eiffel Tower. Saw it last year, it's absolutely incredible.

Until the spring of 1885, when she was dismantled for the long voyage to America, Liberty remained in Paris, the hostess to thousands of French visitors.
